Artist's Statement

The ideas for my art arise spontaneously through deep meditation, immersion in music or nature, and stream of consiousness writing. I approach my work with a spirit of adventure, allowing the images to carry me along as they shift, change, and evolve in a process of co-creation. Art, for me, is about discovery--encountering happy accidents and unexpected beauty, unearthing layers of mystery and meaning. I enjoy being a bit bewildered. Not knowing what to expect adds to the joy and excitement of creating. I feel that this way of making art best reflects the organic unfolding of life itself.
My art is characterized by texture, layers, and organic form. I use a wide array of materials and techniques, as the spirit moves me. I don't overthink. The work is everchanging. There may be periods of continuity and flow, but there may also be sudden, dramatic shifts in direction.
I am currently embarking on an exploration of the erotic qualities of nature--especially plants--to create large, abstract, mixed media paintings. I'm also experimenting with flat loom weaving, inventing my own methods from beginner's mind and incorporating unconventional and natural materials. It's an adventure! Stay tuned...
